How to read RF Filter spec value?

If you don't understand RF Bandpass Filter Spec and Performance, but you need to compare and find out what Filter Spec value is suitable for your design, you could refer to the following curve to define your filter spec according to Temwell Spec base.

RF Filter Type

(1). Normally, RF Filter has 3 types, Bandpass Filter, Highpass Filter and Lowpass Filter. The difference in these three is the range they stop the nosie happened or the signal they allow to pass as bellow.

  • Bandpass Filter:  The Filter only allow the signal going through during a specific frequency band.
  • Highpass Filter: The Filter only allow the signal going through after one specific frequency. Before this Fc, no signal can go pass.
  • Lowpass Filter: The Filter only allow the signal going through before one specific frequency. After this Fc, no signal can go pass.

Define the curve

(2). Bandpass Filter works as a shape of a wave. So, in order to define the spec of Bandpass Filter, we need to identify the 4 point of the wave and then we could realize the spec value of Bandpass Filter.

Define the spec value

(3). The basic spec point of bandpass filter has 5 point as bellow.

  1. a. Center Frequency (Fo)
  2. b. BandWidth (BW) at (-3)dB
  3. c. Insertion Loss (IL) from Level 0 to Fo
  4. d. Sensitivity value at low band (@Fo-  ( )MHz)
  5. e. Sensitivity value at high band (@Fo+ ( )MHz)

(4). the remark of these 5 point, please refer the bellow.

(5). based on these 5 point, you could find out the suitable bandpass filter       for your design.
